Shane has informed me that it is this picture that "sold him on me". Something about what he saw in my eyes. It was my profile picture on LDS Planet (for the 2 minutes that I had my profile on there).
I was looking at it again and I just thought, "Really? You saw this and didn't think 'Oh my heck that woman has 3 kids and cats! RUN!!!' ?"
How did he even notice my eyes?
What was he thinking?
P.S. We don't have cats, they were someone elses, but he didn't know that!

Okay, so here is something that I am sick of that happens to me on a regular basis. I am sick of people coming up to me saying that I must be really special for "taking on" Dixie and the kids. I am sick of knowing looks that I am somehow this good person because I was willing to look past (seriously, look PAST?) the kids and a divorced woman and blah blah blah. I want everyone to STOP thinking I did something noble. I mean, by all means, think I'm noble, but just stop applying it here. I can't take the thought anymore because it is simply untrue. I'm telling you all now, and I mean it quite sincerely, while I have been noble and good and selfless at times in my life, this was easily the most selfish decision I have ever made. Period.
You got a good man; crazy enough to think that he is selfish! :) just kidding. I love love.
I was just going to say, but Shane beat me to it, "Shane isn't noble, he's so selfish." That crazy kid always takes the words right out of my mouth. :) Shucks.
Shane-- I have seen this same kind of praising and even mistakenly done it in the past. The person being praised is shocked at the speculation they married as a huge favor to the new spouse and humanity! Unbelievable?! I think it is usually ignorance and a misplaced attempt at praise.
You did get a marvelous catch, the very idea that someone this spectacular could go back on the market is mind boggling. No surprise you snatched her up in a moment. Half the guys in our graduating class would have kicked their wives to the curb for a chance with Dixie!
Clearly Shane is the perfect guy for our Dixie. Not many men can beat her in racketball or any sport. She would've only picked the best. It is just miraculous that you were both available at the same time to create such a smashing family!
Dixie,
I love this. My dad, who I started off calling "sam-daddy" and now he's just dad, married my mom when she was a divorced mother of me and my two older sisters. We were all thirteen months apart from eachother. Same deal. Everyone has always acted like my dad was a saint. I even heard a lady say, right in front of me!, "Sam, I can't believe you married her when she had all that baggage!" What baggage? Kids are bonus gifts when they come with the person you love. You and Shane's story is beautiful and I so relate to it. Glad you found eachother.

I know exactly how you feel.
